The front headphone jack does not exist in the playback devices - even if the option to "show disconnected/disabled Sound is still directed through whatever is in the back. Plugging anything into the front headphone jack results in no reaction from the computer. Any mention of USB headphones is just avoiding the problem. The headphone jack isn't a USB, and there's nothing wrong with the front USB ports.
